The annual Flower and Vegetable Show is held on the second Saturday in August
It’s Showtime. Yes it really is. The Show is back on Saturday 14th August in the Church. This will be the first Village event since 2019 so let’s make it a day to remember. We’re pleased to welcome the Playing Field Association and their cooking skills to run a BBQ; and the Church officials who have kindly agreed to run the bar and tombola. These stalls are in addition to the usual attractions of afternoon tea and refreshments, skittles and of course all the wonderful exhibits to admire.
If you’re exhibiting you’ll be asked to bring your items along to the church before 11am, then the church is in lockdown whilst the judges do their work. The Show opens to the public at 2.30pm [entry fee just £1 or 50p for children aged 12 and under] and that’s when the fun starts -who has won what?
The outside entertainment includes some fierce competition for the prize at the skittles table, the luck of the draw at tombola, then chilling at the Bar and BBQ. Moving inside the church you will see the amazing and colourful range of exhibits, with details of the winners in each section; amaze at the flair and ingenuity of the children’s entries, the beauty of the flowers and enjoy you way around the tables. After that you’ll need some tea and cake from the servery, and then relax and catch up with old friends.
At 4.15pm exhibitors are invited to remove their produce, whilst being encouraged to leave what they can to be auctioned. At 4.30pm the outside activities will have ceased and everyone is invited into the church for the prizegiving and raffle. Then it’s the auction of produce, led by our lively auctioneer Andrew Wager, a good time is guaranteed; the auction is always entertaining and not to be missed.
So whether you enter in the Show, or simply want to enjoy the afternoon, come along to the biggest party in the village this year.
The Show schedule will be delivered to every house in the village towards the end of July. The schedule has been revamped so please take the time to read it as there is something for everyone. Take the plunge and enter, remember all the entries are anonymous unless you win so come along on Saturday 14th August, join in and have fun.
