The Village Shop has submitted a planning application to install solar panels to help offset the recent doubling of our energy costs at the end of October. We are hoping to install panels on both sides of the roof, but a similar application submitted earlier this year was rejected by the planning officer under delegated powers and was not put before the planning committee.
With solar panels installed, we will be able to reduce our energy usage by around 50% saving around £3000 a year at today’s rates. Without panels, the extra energy costs will put a significant financial burden on the shop, which could have serious consequences for us.
To help us make the case for approval, we need to be able to show that we have the support of the village and that the benefit of having a shop is really important to the community and residents of the village, even though we are in a conservation area.
