I know that it is only October but when you go shopping this weekend you will notice that all the large stores and supermarkets have their Christmas cards out. Well before you are tempted to spend your money with the big boys take a moment to take a look at the Christmas cards TVS has – a small but very nice selection that Jane has put together. You will find them toward the back of the shop next to the cakes.
What a wonderful day we had on Saturday. TVS celebrated 10 years and much of the village celebrated with us. We had luck with the weather, sunny and warm with not a spot of rain until the last marquee had been taken down. Burgers and turkey were consumed, cake was devoured, beer, gin and prosecco quaffed in usual Titchmarsh volumes and everyone got into the spirit of balloon counting, welly wanging and egg throwing. Brilliant! So now here come the thank you messages: Thank you to everyone who entered the cake competition – simply wonderful! Thank you to Fiona Love for the fantastic TVS cake she donated. Thank you to everyone who gave a raffle prize. Thank you to our American friends Gerrard and Alison for introducing us to very tasty American style turkey baps. Thank you to every volunteer who either before the event or on the day gave up their time to make it happen. Thank you to the TVS fund raising team and Jane Newman our shop manager for putting the whole thing together. Very special thanks to John Wills – John was the driving force behind the event and without him it would have not been the success that it was. And finally – the biggest thank you of all to the villagers of Titchmarsh and the shops very loyal customers for coming out and joining us to mark 10 Years of Titchmarsh Village Shop – so onwards now to the next 10!
…Yes it’s true… Titchmarsh Village Shop is 10 years old this September and we’d like to invite you to our 10yr Celebration Event

It has been rumoured that Titchmarsh folk enjoy the occasional tipple, so you won’t want to miss our Beer Tent & the unique “Gin & Prosecco Bar”
We have a special marquee for the Children where you’ll find;- Face painting, storytelling, plus bunting making & build your own recycled village from boxes & plastic bottles..
If you were at the Opening Event back in 2007, you will remember that the popular TV celebrity – Alan Titchmarsh was there to cut the ribbon…We have invited him back to see how things have changed, but he is currently working flat out filming his new Channel 5 TV series – so in case he can’t make it we will be holding an Alan Titchmarsh Lookalike competition – Best Alan Impression (as voted for by the crowd!) will win a prize – (Alan Titchmarsh face masks will be provided for use on the day)
We also have some games & events to keep you entertained – “Precision Welly Wanging” (it’s not all about the length of your wang, but how accurate you can be with your deployment..) There will be – Throw (but more importantly) Catch the Egg (aprons & egg wash-off station provided!)
…but most important.. what we really need for a truly memorable Anniversary Event is YOU – so reserve the date & join us on The Green at the Village Shop on Saturday 30th September from 12.30pm
So as you will have seen, as part of TVS 10 year celebrations the Titchmarsh Bake Off has been launched. The past baking history of the village tells me that we will have a wonderful display of entries on the day. Another way to celebrate 10 years of the village shop is to buy your competition ingredients at the shop when you pop in with your entry form. You will find everything you need on your doorstep. For your sponge – top quality flour, butter and eggs, a range of different sugars and for the filling some really scrumptious jams. For tray bakes of the flapjack kind we have the oats and the golden syrup. Going down the granola route there is a good range of dried fruits and nuts and for millionaire’s shortbread we have the condensed milk and chocolate covered.
All set? Good. Now you just need to get baking!
P.S. Don’t forget your Christmas Cake and Christmas Pudding ingredients whilst you are in baking mode.
As part of our 10 year Anniversary Celebrations the Titchmarsh Village Shop are holding a Village Bake Off on Saturday 30th September

During September TVS is celebrating 10 years of serving the community and to kick off the celebrations customers are being offered the MBE! 2 Litres of Cotteswold Milk 1 pack of either Maryland Farmhouse Butter or Country Life Spreadable 6 medium or large Station Farm Eggs – all for the combined offer price of just £5.
Three of these items come from independent producers: Cotteswold Milk is from a third generation independent dairy, Maryland Farmhouse Butter is made by the Barbers who have been making cheese and butter in Somerset since 1833 and Station Farm is local to us at Finedon.
This promotion is available from 1st September right through the to our Anniversary Fete on the 30th September so whether you are a regular TVS shopper or have not been into the shop for some time why not pop in, take a look around to see what else we have to offer and award yourself the MBE.
The village shop will be open on Bank Holiday Monday between 9am – 11am and although there will be no fresh bread delivery on that day you will be able to find many other items to put together for that last minute BBQ or end of school holiday picnic. In the chiller and freezer you will find our usual range of sausages, burgers and chicken plus picnic essentials such as sausage rolls, pork pies, scotch eggs and cheeses. To complete your feast cakes and biscuits along with fruits such as strawberries, raspberries and, if you are quick, Village grown plums and figs. Now you all you need is the sunshine!
Even though the weather is still a bit gloomy let your local shop help you add some Mediterranean sunshine to you cooking. New into store we have Al Fez tagine cook-in sauces; spiced date and chickpea or apricot and coriander. I usually make my own tagines but thought I would give these a go. Quick to make (only 45 minutes in the oven onto diced chicken), I was pleasantly surprised. Gently spiced and not too sweet, a really good quick meal.
We have also added Senorio de Bernar premium extra virgin cold pressed olive oil. An excellent quality oil for dressings, dips or just by itself on a chunk of bread. We also still stock the very popular Castellino Olives – stuffed with either garlic or sun dried tomatoes and Filipino Berio balsamic vinegar.
Stop Press – having found a new supplier of the Wessex Mill Flour that we previously sold at £2.25 this has now been reduced to £1.75! If you enjoy baking and you have not yet tried this award winning flour do give it a go, I did and I will not use any other brand now.
Following last weeks very successful launch of Quicke’s Devonshire Red cheese Jane has decided to trial two more English cheeses. They are Hawks Wensleydale and Colton Bassett Shropshire Blue. Along with the already very popular Barbers Vintage Cheddar and Lancashire Bomb we really can offer you a high quality cheese board.
As the shop has limited space in the fresh food chiller we want to be able to sell foods that you tell us are good – so when you try these new ranges please report back and tell us what you think.
To the cheese biscuit selection Jane has now added a seeded cracker from the Artisan Biscuits range and we also offer a variety of chutneys including the Man Foods Spiced Mango chutney which we have been told goes down very well with a nice piece of cheddar.
Regular shoppers at TVS will be aware that Jane, the shop manager, has recently been clearing less popular lines and bringing in new goodies to temp your tastebuds and this week is no exception!
New in the chiller is Quicke’s Devonshire Red cheese – this is along side the already very popular Barbers Vintage Cheddar and the Lancashire Bomb. A variety of savoury biscuits and chutneys are also available to make up the perfect lunch time platter.
Look along the shelf in the chiller and you will see the range of Meah’s Curry Sauces that we have been selling for some time and which are getting rave reviews. Now to enjoy with these Jane has introduced a range of naan bread and two different mango chutneys. Sharwoods is the sweet type of chutney that most people will recognise, but if you want something which is a little more of a kick try the Man Food Spiced Chutney.
If you have not been into your local shop for a while do try to pop in and see more of the new ranges that have been introduced.
