Live Football and Rugby at the Wheatsheaf

It’s shaping up to be a very sporty Saturday at the Wheatsheaf with two games being shown live on TV.

European Football Championship Qualifier: Ukraine vs England at 17:00

At 5pm England face Ukraine as both teams continue their efforts to qualify for the 2024 European Football Championships. Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions have romped to four wins from four to top Group C, scoring 15 goals and conceding just one thus far in the campaign. Harry Kane has been in fine form for his new club Bayern Munich and the England captain will be looking to extend his goal scoring record.

Meanwhile Tottenham’s recent £50 signing James Maddison* is also drawing a lot of attention – mostly from Gemma in the Wheatsheaf – so expect a lot of passion on and off the field!

Rugby World Cup: England vs Argentina at 20:00

At 8 o’clock England face Argentina in their Rugby World Cup opener. Previous meetings between these two teams have often been tight but you’d usually expect England to edge things. Not any more. England’s recent dismal run of form means anything is possible and the Pumas will be looking to pull off a memorable win.

So come along and cheer on the teams.

*A number of Titchmarshians have been in touch to suggest Tottenham may have overpaid for Maddison. Patrons of the Wheatsheaf are kindly requested to refrain from mentioning this to Gemma.
