Organ Lecture

There was a solid turnout for the organ lecture presented by William McVicker on Saturday night. In recent years St Mary's has become a popular venue for events and last night was no exception. William, who is organ curator at London’s Royal Festival Hall, is a big fan of our organ. He spoke for over an hour in glowing terms about the man who created built it - T.C.Lewis - and why it's so special. Not only is it a rare example of one England's foremost organ builders, despite being built over 150 years ago it also remains largely in its original condition. Other examples of Lewis organs have been restored - not always to good effect.

Upcoming Events in June

May was a bumper month for events on the Titchmarsh Calendar and June is already promising much of the same.

New Chair of the Parish Council

At the Parish Council AGM on Tuesday evening, Jackie Rowe was appointed the new Chair. She takes over the role from Mark Noakes who stepped down having held the position for the previous 3 years. Sara Wilcox was appointed Vice Chair.

Applications for Affordable Housing

Following the recent drop-in event at the Clubroom, villagers are now able to apply for the affodable homes under construction at Islington. Five of the affordable properties are available to rent and one property (3 bed house) is available on a shared ownership basis (part purchase/ part rent). All of the affordable homes will be managed by Northamptonshire Rural Housing Association and priority is given to applicants with a strong local connection to Titchmarsh, either through residency, employment or by having close relatives living in the village. Details of the local connection criteria are enshrined in a Section 106 Agreement which is part of the planning permission and should be read in conjunction with the Council’s Allocation policy.

Mark the Postie Returns!

After an absence of 13 long weeks, Mark the Titchmarsh postie is back! Mark broke both bones in his leg whilst doing some DIY back in February. He fell whilst standing on a stool in his kitchen and has been laid up ever since. Today is his first day back at work.

Silent Auction to support Titchmarsh Primary School

FoTS (Friends of Titchmarsh School) are running a Silent Auction (see http://goo.gl/forms/WWrxZKQoPd) with some fantastic prizes. Do have a look and a bid or two to support our village school.

Asparagus in the Shop Now

The village shop have just received the first order of this year's crop of Asparagus. This hand-picked treat is supplied by local supplier JL Ashby from just down the road in Polebrook. As it's only available between the months of May and June, it's always one of our tastiest seasonal luxuries. It also packs plenty of nutritional punch, packed as it is with high levels of vitamins A and C, potassium, iron and calcium. Better still, we don't have to travel far to get some!

Stephen Mold Elected as New PCC

Stephen Mold has been declared the new Northamptonshire Police and Crime Commissioner. In a close election battle, the former Conservative South Northants Councillor fought off stiff competition from rival Labour candidate Kevin McKeever. Once second preferences had been taken into account, Mold had a total of 58175 votes in his favour - compared to 49161 for McKeever.
