Harvest Festival

Harvest Festival will be held on Sunday 24th September at 10.45am for the service. At noon the bar will open and lunch will be served at 12.30pm. We have planned lots of food so please come along and join us for a meal and then the auction. Prices are £8 for adults and over 12 years, £4 for 5 to 11 years, and free for the 4s and under.

Titchmarsh Village Shop is 10 years old this September

…Yes it’s true… Titchmarsh Village Shop is 10 years old this September and we’d like to invite you to our  10yr Celebration Event

Saturday 30th September 12.30pm to 4.30pm on the Village Green

We’ve got a great day planned for all the family..

To get the day off to a flying start, we have our “Free to Enter – Village Bake-off”

Grown-ups – Cook us your favourite Sponge cake or “Anything in a tray –(brownies, flapjack –your choice) – Prizes available for both classes.

Children – “Decorated cup cake” – pick up our Bake-Off leaflet for more details & an Entry form from the village shop. – After judging at 11.00am – all your yummy cakes & bakes will be whisked off to the Tea Tent for the whole village to enjoy.

It’s definitely a day to forget the diet because our Barbeque will be fired up with succulent Pork & Apple Burgers & sizzling Hot Dogs, and  -for the first time in village history – “ Deep Fried American Turkey” (Thanksgiving style) cooked by real Americans!

It has been rumoured that Titchmarsh folk enjoy the occasional tipple, so you won’t want to miss our Beer Tent & the unique “Gin & Prosecco Bar”

We have a special marquee for the Children where you’ll find;- Face painting, storytelling, plus bunting making & build your own recycled village from boxes & plastic bottles..

If you were at the Opening Event back in 2007, you will remember that the popular TV celebrity – Alan Titchmarsh was there to cut the ribbon…We have invited him back to see how things have changed, but he is currently working flat out filming his new Channel 5 TV series – so in case he can’t make it we will be holding an Alan Titchmarsh Lookalike competition – Best Alan Impression (as voted for by the crowd!) will win a prize – (Alan Titchmarsh face masks will be provided for use on the day)

We also have some games & events to keep you entertained – “Precision Welly Wanging” (it’s not all about the length of your wang, but how accurate you can be with your deployment..) There will be – Throw (but more importantly) Catch the Egg  (aprons & egg wash-off station provided!)

…but most important.. what we really need for a truly memorable Anniversary Event is YOU – so reserve the date & join us on The Green at the Village Shop on Saturday 30th September from 12.30pm

 

Ordinary Parish Council Meeting

Parish Council meetings are open to members of the public and press, who are welcome to come along and observe. By arrangement with the chairman you, as someone living in the parish, may be invited to address the Council about an item in which you are interested, although you will not be allowed to vote on the matter.

The Wheatsheaf – Open Again Soon!

After weeks of doubt and uncertainty it has been confirmed that a new tenant has taken over the Wheatsheaf. The Proper Pub Co. are based in Northants. They describe themselves as a fledgling pub company with a couple of venues and great plans for expansion. They already run 3 other pubs in the area, including the Green Dragon at Brigstock and the White Horse at Old. From today they can also add the Wheatsheaf in Titchmarsh to their portfolio.

A quick look at the Proper Pub Company’s web site tells you everything you need to know about their ethos.  They run regular theme evenings throughout the week with special offers on drinks, etc. if you involve yourself in the theme night. If you like steaks and pies then you’re in for a treat. The company plan to hold special nights for both at least once a week. They also like to use local real ales, ciders and wines wherever possible. The company are putting together a very special wine list for the Wheatsheaf right now. They also have an extensive range of artisan gins and various mixers including Fever Tree tonics and Franklin’s mixers. Only the best!

The pub are absolutely child and dog friendly.

We don’t want to be the biggest pub company, but we do want to be the best!

Naomi Cooper and Hannah Aston at the White Horse in Old

On Saturday night, Naomi Cooper and 2 other local ladies went on a secret mission to The White Horse in Old to sample their food and get a taste of what the Proper Pub Co. will bring to Titchmarsh.

My burger and thick cut chips were superb and the blood orange sorbet was divine!” said, Naomi. “The décor of the pub was also lovely with lots of twinkly lights which made it welcoming and cosy! I’m so excited that The Wheatsheaf has new owners and will be open soon and in time for Christmas.

Allison Clair said, “The meat was delicious! I don’t think I’ll ever cook again when The Wheatsheaf reopens!

Hannah Aston, who recently moved from Titchmarsh to Aldwincle, said, “I want to move back to Titchmarsh now! The pies were delicious!

Suzy Keeping, General Manager and Events Coordinator of The Proper Pub Co Ltd, who will also be working at The Wheatsheaf when it opens, said, “We are really excited to be taking over The Wheatsheaf. A Manager with loads of experience has been flown in especially from France and we are looking forward to welcoming villagers and people from further afield to the pub very soon.

So there you have it. The Wheatsheaf will be open again soon – possibly in October. Watch this space and the TT for more details.

The PFA Committee

A45 Roadworks Between Stanwick & Raunds

Plans are afoot to resurface the A45 between Stanwick and Raunds next month. Work will be carried out on both carriageways from 2 October until 20th October. The road will closed each night at 8pm until 6am the following morning. Diversions will be in operation re-routing traffic via the A14 at Juntion 13 or on to the A6 at the Chowns Mill Roundabout. As well as resurfacing, the operation will also include the removal of vegetation, layby patching as well as other maintenance activities.

Whilst no major disruption is anticipated, ENC warn that all planned roadworks are subject to change due to weather conditions  or unforeseen circumstances

Cake Glorious Cake!

So as you will have seen, as part of TVS 10 year celebrations the Titchmarsh Bake Off has been launched. The past baking history of the village tells me that we will have a wonderful display of entries on the day. Another way to celebrate 10 years of the village shop is to buy your competition ingredients at the shop when you pop in with your entry form. You will find everything you need on your doorstep. For your sponge – top quality flour, butter and eggs, a range of different sugars and for the filling some really scrumptious jams. For tray bakes of the flapjack kind we have the oats and the golden syrup. Going down the granola route there is a good range of dried fruits and nuts and for millionaire’s shortbread we have the condensed milk and chocolate covered.

All set? Good. Now you just need to get baking!

P.S. Don’t forget your Christmas Cake and Christmas Pudding ingredients whilst you are in baking mode.
