Streetlight consultation – Bulb replacement project – village wide consultation

The Parish Council is responsible for the maintenance and operation of the 40 streetlights in the village. Currently all of our streetlights are illuminated between dusk and dawn and present a considerable burden on our energy bill. We are considering changing some of our streetlights from being illuminated all night [i.e. from dusk to dawn] to being illuminated from dusk to midnight and turning back on again at 5am [i.e. they are off from midnight for five hours and come on again at 5am until dawn].

If we do decide to alter some of the streetlights, this is done by changing the bulb.  There is a cost involved in changing each bulb, but also a benefit is energy cost savings as well as the benefit for the environment.

We have identified 8 out of the 40 streetlights that could potentially be adapted to be off between midnight and 5:00am, and would like your opinion on these specific lights.

These 8 lights are identified by their column numbers:- 15, 16 or 17, 19, 23, 25, 35, 37, 39

Please refer to the detailed streetlight map as part of this consultation so the column numbering is more meaningful to you by street location.

So please have a look and let us know your thoughts about our proposal to reduce the illumination time for these 8 lights to dusk to midnight and back on at 5am until dawn.

Is this a good idea or not?
