This week in the Village Shop

There’s a lot going on this week and we’re starting to get quite excited….!!

Fingers crossed we will have another delivery of the delicious Ashby’s Asparagus from Polebrook. The first 45 bunches sold out really quickly but the cold weather meant a delay in continuing supplies. Mike Ashby said that we should have more asparagus this week and as soon as it arrives, we will post on the Village Shop Facebook Page. Don’t delay in buying yours as Rachel Perkins is determined to smash her 2020 target of consuming over 70 bunches…..

From Friday 7th May we will have slices of homemade cake once again. Sinclair Bakery will be baking a delicious cake every week and we are pleased to be supporting another start up, local business. PS, a traditional Victoria sponge cake will be the first on the menu!

We have been struggling to obtain beer from Nene Valley Brewery as they ramped up production of cask ales to supply the pub trade. Hopefully this will settle down within the next couple of weeks but in the meantime we have a couple of Brew Dog beers in stock and this Thursday, we are taking delivery of Light Ness Session Pale Ale and Speciality Pale Ale from the Loch Ness Brewery.

You may have noticed our external merchandiser outside the Shop. This is to house seasonal products as well additional storage space for fruit and veg etc. We are now selling a small range of fresh, cut flowers which will be available from Fridays but when they’re gone, they’re gone! Shortly we will also have a supply of bedding plants, similar to last year. Remember when all the garden centres were shut and the only place you could buy bedding plants was from the Village Shop!

From Tuesday 4th May, we will be trialing a butchery range of fresh meats from Warmington Chops. Deliveries will be made on Tuesdays and Fridays and include pre packed fresh minced beef, chicken breasts, stewing steak, beef burgers and homemade sausages in packs of 8, as well as other “specials”. Orders can be taken for other meats, joints etc. Again, another collaboration with a local business who is keen to support and work with us. Grasmere products will still be available as normal.

As we come out of lockdown and shopping becomes more “normal”, we are conscious that we need to bring in new initiatives if we are to retain some of our 2020 uplift in business. Each week we will bring you a preview of what’s happening in the Village Shop and what to look out for.

Hope to see you soon.
