Titchmarsh Environmental Group’s Winter Litter Pick gets amazing support!

Wow!! 15 people ( the largest number yet) met at Titchmarsh Village Shop on a cold but sunny February morning for our Winter Litter Pick.

Just as well – as so much fly tipping and litter has appeared round our village in recent weeks. At Halden’s Parkway the hedgerow has been flailed by the the empty triangle of land and exposed a shocking mess of debris. We understand it is to be used for storage containers. (More HGV’s coming and going!!) It made a good opportunity for TEG volunteers to clear the huge amount of litter that had been exposed. Several volunteers cleared around the petrol station at the Thrapston Island. TEG have on going conversations with the owners encouraging them to deal with the litter they create!

The litter that continually appears along Islington was also cleared. We collected a shocking 60 bags of rubbish in 2 hours and will let North Northants Council know tomorrow so they can collect them. We will also inform them of the fly tipping at Islington and along The Leys – again – as we understand this has been reported already. We were thanked by a few passers by and in fact one person kindly donated £10 to support TEG in the work we do.

A huge thank you to all who supported our event to help look after our village and the local wildlife and environment they live in.
