Titchmarsh Walking Group – Whatever the Weather!
The Titchmarsh Walking Group meets on the first Saturday of every month – whatever the weather! On Saturday 3rd march the group met as usual on the village green at 10am. After such heavy snow the preceding few days it was thought there would be a poor turnout – but not at all. Twelve intrepid adventurers donned their winter woollies and headed out into the frozen countryside.
The walkers split into 2 groups. The main party headed off in the direction of Polopit – then up into the fields behind Abbots Close and on towards the rising land behind Bidwell Cottages.
The remaining 4 walkers set off for Wigsthorpe. This route took them up the hill to Clopton, then over the fields towards Barnwell before taking a sharp left and dropping into Wigsthorpe (see map below). They returned along the old railway line via a brief stop for sustenance at the Fox at Thorpe Waterville.
Both parties met up again for lunch at the Wheatsheaf around 1:00pm.
The Titchmarsh Walking Group is a great way to socialise and get fit. Quite a bit of work goes into organising each walk with recces to ensure that the route is both suitable and good underfoot. Most walks are between 4 and 5 miles in length – which most people can do quite easily. Those who want to can always do a bit more if they wish.
With spring just around the corner, a series of mid-week evening walks are also planned.
If you want to be a bit more active this spring/summer, come along to the next walk on 7th April. You’ll be glad you did.
