A14 westbound between junction 16 (Catworth) and Tollbar Lane junction (Keyston) – maintenance work

Update from National Highways

I’m writing to tell you about our upcoming plans to carry out essential maintenance work on the A14 westbound at the Tollbar Lane junction, on the Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire border between junction 13 (Thrapston) and junction 16 (Catworth). This project includes resurfacing, refreshing road markings, replacing worn road studs, also known as cat’s eyes and fixing inadequate skid resistance at a known collision-risk location. Once complete, drivers should benefit from a safer, smoother and more clearly marked road surface.

We plan to complete this work over four nights between Thursday 6 August and Wednesday 12 August 2026. We plan to work overnight between 8pm and 6am on weeknights only, weather permitting.

Closures and diversions

To carry out the work safely, we will need to fully close the A14 westbound carriageway between junction 22 (Brampton) and junction 13 (Thrapston), and divert traffic as follows:

Motorway traffic:

  • Westbound traffic should exit the A14 at junction 22 (Brampton) and merge onto the A1 northbound.
  • Continue on the A1(M) north to junction 17 (Fletton Parkway, Peterborough), then take the A605 westbound.
  • Follow the signed diversion route via the A605 to rejoin the A14 westbound at Thrapston.

Non-motorway traffic:

  • Westbound (non-motorway) traffic should exit the A14 at junction 22 (Brampton) and merge onto the A1 northbound.
  • Take the A1 to the B1043 exit in Alconbury.
  • Get on Fletton Parkway (A1139) in Peterborough from the B1043 and London Road (A15).
  • Follow Fletton Parkway (A1139) to the A605, then take the A605 westbound to rejoin the A14 westbound.

Please note that emergency vehicles will have access through the works at all times.
