Wheatsheaf Update – Pubs and restaurants must close

Boris Johnson says the government is strengthening the measures announced on Monday – avoiding unnecessary social contact.

Following agreement of all the four nations of the UK, Johnson said all cafes, bars, pubs and restaurants must close on Friday night.

Night clubs, theatres, gyms, cinemas and leisure centures must also close on the same timescale.

The measures will be considered as time goes on, Boris Johnson says. But he stresses people should not go out tonight to such venues.

“We want you to stay at home to protect the NHS and save lives,” he adds.

Mr Johnson said it seemed to go against the freedom-loving instincts of British people but “we will get through this – we will get through it together and beat this virus”.

Editor’s Note: The news didn’t stop a large gathering at the Wheatsheaf on Friday night. Stuart has said he will do his best to continue. He is still allowed offer a take-away service and there will be other “initiatives”. Stay tuned to this site and social media for updates.
