Ten years ago Pete and I moved back from abroad and made our home in Titchmarsh. One of the main reasons was to be near my elderly parents. We’d never lived in a village before, but it didn’t take long to feel part of things. We’ve loved joining in with village life ever since.
Then, three years ago, my dad Len was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s dementia. I have a medical background and thought I understood the disease. I didn’t. Nothing quite prepares you for what it does to a whole family, or for how little help there is out there. Through it all, the Alzheimer’s Society was a lifeline for us.
Dad spent his last year in a care home and died on 10th March this year. We miss him every day.
So now we want to give something back, for all the families still living through this. On 4th October, Pete and I will be doing the Alzheimer’s Society Memory Walk in London, in Dad’s memory. Every penny raised goes towards dementia support and research.
